Meeru Maldives Resort Island
A great value getaway
Sand-floor bars and thatched open-air restaurants lend a casual and unpretentious feel to this large and popular island.
Despite its size and ample facilities, Meeru retains a tranquil atmosphere. As with most of the larger islands in the Maldives, you’ll be allocated a main buffet restaurant for meals, depending on your room type and location. And while families adore it here, the resort has cleverly zoned adults-only facilities, including one of the main restaurants, a bar, and one of the two pools.

Why our experts like it
We've done the exploring, asked the locals, made the mistakes, and found the gems... so you don't have to start from scratch! These are the bits we think you'll love the most. Think of it as travel advice from a friend who just got back and can't wait to tell you everything.

If you love French cuisine, look no further than La Belle Vie

An incredible way to kick off your Maldives holiday
“There's something pretty special about travelling by seaplane. The view from the sky is extraordinary - tiny specs of island and shades of blue that barely look real.”

The iconic, mile-long sandbank
Perfect for isolated sunbathing, dramatic photoshoots, and watching breathtaking Maldivian sunsets.

Snorkelling and diving isn't the only way to catch sight of the underwater world
“If snorkelling and diving isn't for you, it's possible to catch a glimpse of the reef from a glass-bottomed boat instead.”

Food & drink
You’ll be allocated one of two restaurants for buffet-style meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Both feature a Maldivian theme night and a special Sunday breakfast with complimentary sparkling wine. There’s the option to switch things up with three à la carte restaurants. And when it comes to bars, you’re thoroughly spoilt for choice
The main restaurants, Farivalhu and Maalan, are traditional in style, with live cooking stations and indoor and outdoor dining areas. These restaurants are very relaxed, so if you want to dine barefoot, it’s absolutely fine. There are also two à la carte options.
The Asian Wok restaurant is perfect for drinks at sunset whilst perched on one of the colourful cushions, dangling your legs over the water and watching the reef sharks playing in the dusky light, followed by a teppanyaki dinner.
At The Hot Rock restaurant, choose from seafood and a range of exotic meats, and then watch as it cooks on the hot volcanic rocks on your table.
The Meeru Café is ideal for a snack. Kakuni Bar is a sports bar with table tennis, billiards, snooker, darts, chess and a big-screen TV, and is the place for evening entertainment. The Uthuru Bar is the resort’s adults-only bar; and there’s also two pool bars and a beach bar.
Asian Wok has the most impressive setting of all the restaurants, where you’ll be delighted by the views and the excellent Japanese dishes in equal measure.

Diving in the Maldives
In the South Malé Atoll, Hukrueli is another place to see rays and cleaner fish, and Maaya Thila, a protected marine area, is home to white-tip sharks, turtles, zebra morays and the elusive guitar shark. Hanifaru lagoon in the Baa Atoll is one of the best places to see whale sharks and manta rays – June to September being the best time as this is during the monsoon season and equinox when the lagoon is filled with plankton. The Scuba Diver course provides pre-entry level certification in three days and on completion you can then upgrade to an Open Water Diver qualification by taking the additional five day course. Our Ten Dives and Six Consecutive Days diving allow qualified divers to make the most of their time in these beautiful islands. Courses are available at Kurumba Maldives, Dhigali Maldives, Velidhu and Meeru.

Questions? Sorted.
Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?
British passport holders are issued a free 30-day visitor visa on arrival. You'll need a passport valid for the duration of your stay, a confirmed onward ticket and proof of your accommodation booking.
When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry season, with the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas. May to October brings shorter rain showers, lower prices and better surf.
What currency is used in the Maldives, and do I need cash?
The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts price and bill in US dollars and take major cards. Most guests never need cash — a small amount is handy for tipping.
Is the Maldives good for honeymoons outside peak season?
Yes. Off-peak brings noticeably lower rates and quieter islands, and rain tends to come in short bursts rather than all day. Many resorts add honeymoon extras during these months.
What activities are there for older kids and teens in the Maldives?
Most resorts run watersports centres with windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding, plus PADI dive courses from around age ten. Snorkelling safaris, sandbank trips and night fishing all suit older children.
