Small and scenic, Thudufushi has a lovely casual atmosphere. The island’s location on the outer edge of the atoll means easy access to the deeper ocean and the chance to see larger marine creatures. There’s also an excellent area for water-skiing and windsurfing, a large lagoon and house reef, and a special marine biology programme that includes coral regeneration.
Small and picturesque, Thudufushi has welcoming staff and a lovely casual atmosphere. Diving is one of the most popular activities here. The island’s location on the outer edge of the atoll means that there’s access to deeper ocean and larger marine creatures. There’s a great area for waterskiing and windsurfing, a large lagoon and house reef, and an impressive marine biology programme includes coral regeneration.
Dining options include the buffet-style restaurant, Maakanaa, plus an intimate Japanese restaurant with a teppanyaki grill and a cultural Maldivian corner, where two guests at a time can prepare traditional dishes with the chef and then dine under the palms of the tropical garden.
An unspoilt and wonderfully informal island hideaway with excellent diving and snorkelling.

Food & drink
It’s quality over quantity here. You’ll be allocated one of two restaurants depending on which accommodation you book. You can dine at your non-allocated option – although this is at an additional fee for Beach-based guests wishing to dine at Aqua. There are also memorable dining experiences to book separately.
Maakanaa — offers buffet-style dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch might consist of pizza and pasta, or a barbecue grill where the catch of the day and a selection of meats are cooked to perfection. There’ll also be a choice of local dishes and themed dinners. The resort recommends that Water Villa guests book in advance to dine here.
The main dining venue for Water Villa guests is Aqua – the overwater restaurant which features a modern European and Asian fusion à la carte menu.
Thila — , the intimate Japanese restaurant, features a live show cooking experience, where specialist chefs prepare fresh sushi and cook a selection of seafood and meats on the teppanyaki grill.
The Maldivian corner, Farivalhu, offers cultural dining, where two guests at a time are invited to share in a starlit dining experience under the palm trees of the tropical garden. You’ll help prepare traditional Maldivian dishes which will then be served in the open by the Maldivian chefs.
For a romantic dinner on the beach, Kakuni offers freshly caught seafood and fresh lobster under the moonlight. There’s also Veli – a beach bar serving up light bites and tropical cocktails.

Diving in the Maldives
In the South Malé Atoll, Hukrueli is another place to see rays and cleaner fish, and Maaya Thila, a protected marine area, is home to white-tip sharks, turtles, zebra morays and the elusive guitar shark. Hanifaru lagoon in the Baa Atoll is one of the best places to see whale sharks and manta rays – June to September being the best time as this is during the monsoon season and equinox when the lagoon is filled with plankton. The Scuba Diver course provides pre-entry level certification in three days and on completion you can then upgrade to an Open Water Diver qualification by taking the additional five day course. Our Ten Dives and Six Consecutive Days diving allow qualified divers to make the most of their time in these beautiful islands. Courses are available at Kurumba Maldives, Dhigali Maldives, Velidhu and Meeru.

Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry season, with the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas. May to October brings shorter rain showers, lower prices and better surf.
What currency is used in the Maldives, and do I need cash?
The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts price and bill in US dollars and take major cards. Most guests never need cash — a small amount is handy for tipping.
Is the Maldives good for honeymoons outside peak season?
Yes. Off-peak brings noticeably lower rates and quieter islands, and rain tends to come in short bursts rather than all day. Many resorts add honeymoon extras during these months.
What activities are there for older kids and teens in the Maldives?
Most resorts run watersports centres with windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding, plus PADI dive courses from around age ten. Snorkelling safaris, sandbank trips and night fishing all suit older children.
