Located on Havelock Island, in a forest behind the white sands of Vijaynagar Beach lies Tilar Siro. The name comes from the original inhabitants, the Great Andamanese Tribe, who referred to the islands as Thi-Lar-Siro – which means land emerging from the sea. It’s a paradise for divers and the thriving coral reefs make for some of the best 30-metre dive sites in the world. The water is crystal clear and there are manta rays, deep sea marlins and dugongs. Leatherback turtles nest on the beaches and guests can join night patrols with torches on the beach to look for cuttlefish, octopuses and decorator crabs. Rainforest treks will reveal the island’s bird life with up to 15 per cent unique to the Andamans. The architecture at Tilar Siro takes inspiration from the Burmese settlers and Nicobar buildings that populate the Andamans. The buildings are set on stilts and constructed from natural materials and each spacious room is set against the tropical garden with the sea beyond. Tilar Siro’s core values are environmentally responsible and much of the produce is sourced locally.
