The Standard Ibiza
Delightfully lively
A gleamingly glossy presence in the heart of Ibiza's Old Town and place to see and be seen.
As a brand that’s known for its penchant for parties, The Standard is a great fit for Ibiza. It’s an adults-only hotel with two sociable and lively venues – UP on the rooftop and Jara at the lobby level – both staying open until the early hours. There’s a more relaxed ambience during the day when the refreshing rooftop pool (something of a rarity in Ibiza) will prove hard to resist. Find a deep-cushioned lounger amid the scented lavender and olive trees and beneath a fringed parasol and allow a team of staff to take good care of you, perhaps before a revitalising Vinyasa yoga class.

Why our experts like it
We've done the exploring, asked the locals, made the mistakes, and found the gems... so you don't have to start from scratch! These are the bits we think you'll love the most. Think of it as travel advice from a friend who just got back and can't wait to tell you everything.

If you love French cuisine, look no further than La Belle Vie

An incredible way to kick off your Maldives holiday
“There's something pretty special about travelling by seaplane. The view from the sky is extraordinary - tiny specs of island and shades of blue that barely look real.”

The iconic, mile-long sandbank
Perfect for isolated sunbathing, dramatic photoshoots, and watching breathtaking Maldivian sunsets.

Snorkelling and diving isn't the only way to catch sight of the underwater world
“If snorkelling and diving isn't for you, it's possible to catch a glimpse of the reef from a glass-bottomed boat instead.”

Kids club at Niva Kuramathi Maldives
Supervised activities through the day, so younger guests get their own adventure while you get a quiet hour by the water.

Food & drink
A restaurant and bar around the rooftop pool is a social hub of The Standard with something of a 70s feel, thanks to peach florals and fringing on the parasols. It’s open from morning until the small hours and serving an eclectic mix of Japanese and Mexican flavours. Otherwise, you’ve got the lobby-level Jara, which opens for breakfast. Then the mood and ambience evolves throughout the day and late into night.
UP at the Standard — Set next to the rooftop pool and with views over the Old Town, order plates of sushi from a menu inspired by Japan and Mexico. Jara at The Standard — Open for breakfast, then serving an all-day menu through to 2am, Jara is where you can order farm-to-table dishes and delicious cocktails in a café-meets-brasserie set-up.

Sunset Catamaran Cruise to Formentera
For an evening out with a difference, hop aboard a sleek catamaran and set sail for Formentera. Your ultimate destination is dreamy Espalmador, an uninhabited speck of land just off the north tip of the island, which is blessed with dazzling white beaches washed by limpid blue waters. It’s a perfect place for a late afternoon swim when there’s hardly anyone else around. From here, the boat will cruise to the bay of Ses Illetes, set within Formentera Natural Park and a superb location for watching the sun go down in a blaze of colour. With chillout music playing softly in the background and a fabulous dinner of freshly made barbecue favourites – just the thing for sea-air-sharpened appetites – it’ll feel more like a wonderfully exclusive club than a boat trip. • Duration: evening • Time: 4.30pm to 10pm • Departs Monday to Saturday/ • Operates year-round/ • Group experience/ Good to know — The catamaran holds up to 140 passengers.

Formentera Highlights In A Day
Spend a fascinating day soaking up the sleepy charm of Formentera, the smallest of the Balearic Islands, where it almost feels as if time has stood still. A speedy ferry will whisk you across from Ibiza in 25 minutes, leaving you plenty of time for an in-depth guided tour of some of the island’s must-see spots. These include San Francisco, the charming village capital, with its white-painted houses, fortress-like church and independent shops, which is a delightful place to wander. Then there’s La Mola, perched on a towering cliff on the east coast, which Jules Verne described as ‘the lighthouse at the end of the world’ and from where there are spectacular sea views. And no trip to Formentera would be complete without a visit to one of its beautiful beaches for a swim, plus a spot of lunch in a typically laid-back eatery. • Duration: full day • Time: 8am to 6pm • Departs Thursdays and Sundays/ • Operates year-round/ • Group experience Good to know — Lunch is not included.

Discover Ibiza by Jeep
Get off the beaten track with a 4x4 adventure that takes you to some of Ibiza’s less-visited spots in the west, north and east. Heading along backcountry roads and tracks, you’ll hear stories about the island’s history, flora and fauna and discover hidden valleys, pine forests and breathtaking stretches of coastline. It’s not all about nature, however, as your route will also take you through quiet hamlets of whitewashed sugar-cube houses flanked by palm trees that are just waiting to be photographed. There’ll be time for a swim at Benirrás beach, which is known for its crystal-clear waters and Sunday evening ‘drumming down the sunset’ ritual, and a visit to a hippy market where you can shop for artisanal products. • Duration: full day • Time: 10.30am to 4.30pm • Departs Wednesdays, Saturdays & Sundays • Operates year round • Group experience Good to know — A baguette on the beach is included, but you may want to bring additional snacks.

Ibiza Highlights In A Day
Described by a 20th-century artist as the White Island, a name that’s stuck, Ibiza may be small but it’s not short on attractions. Spend an enchanting day discovering a range of sites of cultural interest, beautiful beaches, pretty villages and stunning scenery on a guided bus tour. On Wednesdays, there’ll also be a stop at the Es Cana/Punta Arabí hippy market, which has hundreds of stalls for you to browse, set under pine trees and along the winding streets of the small resort. Saturday tours include a visit to the equally famous hippy market of Las Dalias, which has been part of Ibiza’s bohemian scene since 1954. • Duration: Full day • Time: 9am to 5pm • Departs Wednesdays & Saturdays/ • Operates year-round/ • Group experience Good to know — Lunch is not included.

Questions? Sorted.
Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?
British passport holders are issued a free 30-day visitor visa on arrival. You'll need a passport valid for the duration of your stay, a confirmed onward ticket and proof of your accommodation booking.
When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry season, with the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas. May to October brings shorter rain showers, lower prices and better surf.
What currency is used in the Maldives, and do I need cash?
The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts price and bill in US dollars and take major cards. Most guests never need cash — a small amount is handy for tipping.
Is the Maldives good for honeymoons outside peak season?
Yes. Off-peak brings noticeably lower rates and quieter islands, and rain tends to come in short bursts rather than all day. Many resorts add honeymoon extras during these months.
What activities are there for older kids and teens in the Maldives?
Most resorts run watersports centres with windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding, plus PADI dive courses from around age ten. Snorkelling safaris, sandbank trips and night fishing all suit older children.
