Ideal for couples, this luxurious landmark hotel is the perfect gateway to the capital city of Valletta.
The Phoenicia Malta is one of the country’s finest hotels. It’s the oldest luxury hotel in Malta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Valletta icon just outside the city gate. An incredible way to kick off your Maldives holiday
“There's something pretty special about travelling by seaplane. The view from the sky is extraordinary - tiny specs of island and shades of blue that barely look real.”

Perfect for isolated sunbathing, dramatic photoshoots, and watching breathtaking Maldivian sunsets.

Snorkelling and diving isn't the only way to catch sight of the underwater world
“If snorkelling and diving isn't for you, it's possible to catch a glimpse of the reef from a glass-bottomed boat instead.”

Food & drink
With an iconic bar, superb views from its two restaurants’ terraces and a Maltese outpost of an international steakhouse name, eating at the Phoenicia is a delight.
The Phoenix — is the hotel's main dining room, and here you'll find both the setting and the cuisine inspired by the grand cafés of Europe. Elegant, stylish and reminiscent of a time gone by, the Palm Court Lounge serves fresh pastry each morning and a traditional Afternoon Tea in the afternoon, while the Pool Bar and Restaurant is infinitely more modern, with a contemporary design and modern snacks, salads and gelato. Casual and cosmopolitan, Café Phoenicia is a popular spot in Valetta where you can grab burgers, wood-fired pizzas and freshly made pasta. Malta's colonial past is celebrated at the Club Bar where classic cocktails are served by an expert mixologist.
The intimate bar has a long history, retro décor, moody lighting and incredible house cocktails.
Contessa Restaurant — The elegant main restaurant is open for buffet breakfast, then again from lunchtime until dinner (both à la carte). The menu of classic international dishes is complemented by the setting, especially the expansive terrace overlooking the gardens and Marsamxett Harbour. Bastion Pool Bar & Restaurant — Dine al fresco on light summery dishes – or just sip a cocktail – next to the infinity pool, from where there are magnificent harbour views. Palm Court Lounge — This relaxing spot is the hotel's heart where you can sink into a sofa with a cup of coffee or one of the afternoon tea options. Beefbar in the City — This new arrival at the Phoenicia is one of the latest openings from the global steakhouse brand Beefbar, known for its stylish street and comfort food. Club Bar — A popular hangout since 1952, this cosy bar is the place to come for signature cocktails such as the wonderfully named Billie Holiday on the Radio.

Questions? Sorted.
Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?
British passport holders are issued a free 30-day visitor visa on arrival. You'll need a passport valid for the duration of your stay, a confirmed onward ticket and proof of your accommodation booking.
When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry season, with the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas. May to October brings shorter rain showers, lower prices and better surf.
What currency is used in the Maldives, and do I need cash?
The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts price and bill in US dollars and take major cards. Most guests never need cash — a small amount is handy for tipping.
Is the Maldives good for honeymoons outside peak season?
Yes. Off-peak brings noticeably lower rates and quieter islands, and rain tends to come in short bursts rather than all day. Many resorts add honeymoon extras during these months.
What activities are there for older kids and teens in the Maldives?
Most resorts run watersports centres with windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding, plus PADI dive courses from around age ten. Snorkelling safaris, sandbank trips and night fishing all suit older children.
