The breathtaking Shangri-La Hambantota has brought all of the hallmarks of Shangri-La – exemplary service, a modern design, the signature CHI spa and innovative dining options – to the shores of Sri Lanka. Set in 53 acres, the resort sits on a long stretch of beach and has a wide range of facilities including The Village, an artisan centre where you can browse and buy locally created arts and crafts. The resort is also one of the first on the island to have its very own golf course, the beautifully designed Rodney Wright 18-hole course, perfect if you are looking to enjoy a round or two during your holiday. Younger guests are well catered for with the Cool Zone Kids' Club, as well as a wide selection of facilities you can enjoy together as a family such as a flying trapeze (with a trainer on hand to guide you) and a water park with slides and water features.

In this casual venue you can enjoy an interactive experience as street fare dishes are created as you watch. The final venue is the steak house Ulpatha Restaurant & Bar. A snack bar, club house and two bars, including the Gimunhala Lounge Bar, where tapas, shisha and teas are served, complete the drinking and dining options. Alternatively, you can enjoy the dining by design concept which offers tailor-made dining experiences in beautiful settings throughout the resort.

With two restaurants and two bars, eating well here is never going to be an issue. For a special occasion, you can enjoy tailor-made dining experiences in beautiful settings throughout the resort.
The hotel's main restaurant Bojunhala, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, is a buffet restaurant with a difference. You can discover how a selection of the resort's signature dishes are created at the interactive food stations or enjoy one of the many theme nights held here. There's an area set aside where there are cooking stations tailored to children – a perfect way to keep younger guests amused and entertained while they dine. Alongside the buffet dishes, there's an a la carte menu featuring favourites from all over the island. Cuisine from South East Asia created with locally-sourced ingredients are the focus at the fine-dining restaurant Sera, and just like those at Bojunhala, the dishes are prepared in open kitchens.
There are two bars at the resort - Gimanhala and Ulpatha. The former is a delightfully casual open-air venue close to the lobby where you can enjoy afternoon tea, a cocktail or glass of Champagne at sundown and a post-dinner drink. Ulpatha, which translates to 'watering hole', is a sports bar located next to the golf course.
The offerings at the dinner-only restaurant Sera are inspired by South-East Asia’s hawker stalls, and there’s a real feeling of authenticity about the whole experience.
Bojunhala — The main restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, offers an appealing mix of Sri Lankan and international cuisine. Sit inside to watch your dishes. Sera — Dishes from Asia, from Malaysian sambals to Chinese delicacies – all are created with locally sourced ingredients – and the focus at the fine-dining restaurant Sera. Gimanhala Lounge — At this delightfully casual open-air venue close to the lobby, you can enjoy afternoon tea, a cocktail or glass of Champagne at sundown and a post-dinner drink. Ulpatha Club House & Bar — Doubling as the 19th green of the golf course, this airy eatery offers modern European ‘gastro-pub’ cuisine and an excellent choice of beers and wines.

If you’ve already had the pleasure of exploring the Udawalawe National Park and would like some additional time observing the abundant wildlife in their natural habitat, this is the excursion for you. As you head back into the vast park it won’t be long before you stumble across a herd of elephants strolling alongside the track or water buffalo and deer congregating by a watering hole. The Cinnamon Experience
Not far from the golden shores of Weligama is the hillside Top House, a working cinnamon plantation that’s been lovingly restored by its British owner. A combination of self-sustaining age-old techniques and modern technology is used to extract cinnamon leaf oil at the newly built distillery. When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry season, with the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas. May to October brings shorter rain showers, lower prices and better surf.
What currency is used in the Maldives, and do I need cash?
The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts price and bill in US dollars and take major cards. Most guests never need cash — a small amount is handy for tipping.
Is the Maldives good for honeymoons outside peak season?
Yes. Off-peak brings noticeably lower rates and quieter islands, and rain tends to come in short bursts rather than all day. Many resorts add honeymoon extras during these months.
What activities are there for older kids and teens in the Maldives?
