Preskil Island Resort
For beachside family adventures
One of our most popular Mauritius resorts has gone through a huge transformation into a cool and contemporary ‘island’ retreat. Obviously retaining same incredible private-peninsula setting, the views out towards the nature reserve island of Ile aux Aigrettes, the Lion Mountain and Blue Bay Marine Park are the same. There’s an entrance which has been designed to make you feel as if you’ve arrived somewhere special, and there are charming yet chic thatched buildings dotted around the grounds that house a couple of the restaurants bars, the boutique and the spa.
One of the real highlights of the resort is the selection of watersports that are available, many of which are included in the price of your holiday. It’s likely that you’re going to want to make the most of the clear-water lagoon and you can windsurf, snorkel, sail and canoe to your heart’s content. There are some aquatic activities that are available for a supplement such as diving, deep sea fishing, catamaran cruises and glass-bottom boat cruises in the Blue Bay Marine Park. There are three dining options to choose from including a buffet restaurant, a Mediterranean venue and a delightful beachside eatery which makes the most of those much-loved coastal vistas.
Popular Preskil is a modern resort on a private peninsula and is a perfect choice for families and couples.

Why our experts like it
We've done the exploring, asked the locals, made the mistakes, and found the gems... so you don't have to start from scratch! These are the bits we think you'll love the most. Think of it as travel advice from a friend who just got back and can't wait to tell you everything.

'My Indian Ocean all-rounder'
“Now, I adore the Maldives, but I was blown away by the welcome, culture, food and how easy it is to get around Mauritius. If it's more than an Indian Ocean beach holiday you're after, this is it.”

'Hit the road'
“Mauritius isn’t just an island - it’s a drive through paradise. It’s only 45 miles wide and 30 miles long so you can explore every corner: dreamy beaches, lush hills, and vibrant towns. Small island, big memories!”

Food & drink
With three restaurants that feature an imaginative selection of international dishes, there’s plenty of variety on offer.
Rende-Vous — is the resort's main restaurant and is open at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is served as a buffet and at dinner and lunch there's a 'local market' focus. This means that you'll get to sample locally-grown produce and enjoy cuisine from all over the world. The dishes are made in front of you in the open kitchens – the dishes here are all fresh and flavoursome. 1810 is set to become one of the favourite dining venues at the reimagined Preskil, mainly due to its beachside setting. Everything tastes better with a view like the one here. It's all about the local dishes at lunch and seafood specialities once the sun has set. For more international flavours, head to Mosaïc, the Mediterranean restaurant.
Enjoy breakfast out in the lagoon on board a traditional pirogue, one of the resort’s signature experiences.

Mauritian Wildlife Experience
Experience conservation in action as you explore the Ile Aux Aigrettes Nature Reserve run by the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation on this insightful guided eco tour. Having previously been devastated by tree logging and the introduction of non-native animal and plant species, the foundation’s intense conservation efforts have resulted in the restoration of the forest and species that had long since disappeared from the island. After a short boat trip from the mainland across Mahebourg Bay, your private ranger will guide you along the reserve’s trails introducing you to the distinctive flora and fauna, pointing out rare species such as the Pink Pigeon and Giant Aldabra Tortoise as you go. Before leaving, head to the islands famed Rault Biscuit Factory where cassava biscuits have been produced for over a century and tuck into an authentic Mauritian lunch at a local restaurant. • Duration: half day • Morning departure • Monday to Saturday departures (excluding Wednesday) • Operates year round • Private experience Good to know — Although a gentle route suitable for children, we recommend packing a good pair of walking shoes and some bug repellent for the trail.

Dolphin And Whales Encounter
Catching your first glimpse of a dolphin racing beside your boat or spotting a giant humpback whale breaching on the ocean’s surface are moments that will stay with you forever. As you head out along the west coast, your experienced crew will begin briefing you on the types of dolphins and whales you can hope to spot and most importantly how to view these magnificent mammals in a sustainable and responsible manner. It won’t be long before you’re an expert at identifying the two types of dolphins found here – Bottlenose and Spinners – as you watch them play in their natural habitat. Sperm Whales call these waters home all year-round while between July and November giant Humpback Whales travel up from the arctic to breed and give birth. As you continue into deeper waters in search of these graceful creatures, the skippers will be on hand to answer all your questions and ensure you’re prepared for your first encounter. • Duration: half day • Time: 7.30am to 12.30pm • Monday to Saturday departures • Operates year Round • Private experience Good to know — As this experience involves wild animals, there’s no guarantee you’ll encounter the dolphins or whales in their natural habitat but the crew at Dolswim have a 90% success rate. Due to the nature of the activity this experience is not recommended for pregnant women, those who are physically challenged or children under five years old.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?
British passport holders are issued a free 30-day visitor visa on arrival. You'll need a passport valid for the duration of your stay, a confirmed onward ticket and proof of your accommodation booking.
When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry season, with the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas. May to October brings shorter rain showers, lower prices and better surf.
What currency is used in the Maldives, and do I need cash?
The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts price and bill in US dollars and take major cards. Most guests never need cash — a small amount is handy for tipping.
Is the Maldives good for honeymoons outside peak season?
Yes. Off-peak brings noticeably lower rates and quieter islands, and rain tends to come in short bursts rather than all day. Many resorts add honeymoon extras during these months.
What activities are there for older kids and teens in the Maldives?
Most resorts run watersports centres with windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding, plus PADI dive courses from around age ten. Snorkelling safaris, sandbank trips and night fishing all suit older children.
