An African wildlife experience
Okonjima Bushcamp lies on the Okonjima Nature Reserve, a former cattle ranch that’s now a conservation success story and home to the AfriCat Foundation.
Okonjima is one of the best places to see leopard in Namibia, largely due to the reserve’s predator research programme. Enjoy game drives and nature walks with expert guides, where you may see oryx, giraffe, zebra and brown hyena. The architecture at Okonjima Bush Camp is inspired by nature, with curved lines and ochre colours that echo the sandstone Omboroko Mountains. There are eight thatched-roof African chalets with windows offering unrestricted views of the savannah. Each chalet has its own sala, an open-air space with chaises lounges overlooking a little waterhole, attracting lots of birds. There is also a Junior Suite with two queen-size beds and lounge with fireplace.

Track endangered rhinos and pangolins at Okonjima
It’s an incredible feeling being out in the bush near these magnificent rhinos, immersed in nature. You’ll get to ask the experts about the species and how they’re protected in this 22,000-hectare reserve. Pangolins have become a hot topic over the last 15 years as the most highly-trafficked animal in the world. Along with the AfriCat Foundation, they conduct research for conservation purposes and share it with other pangolin projects worldwide. To track the pangolins, you will need to head out very early in the morning. You might be woken up at 2 am with a to-go cup of coffee, then you’ll venture into the bush with researchers and the anti-poaching unit. If you’re fortunate enough to locate a pangolin, you will observe them from a respectful distance in silence so as not to disturb the animals, which are classed as a vulnerable species. It’s an amazing experience to walk through the bush at night with a headlamp on, searching for these scaly prehistoric animals.

Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?
British passport holders are issued a free 30-day visitor visa on arrival. You'll need a passport valid for the duration of your stay, a confirmed onward ticket and proof of your accommodation booking.
When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry season, with the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas. May to October brings shorter rain showers, lower prices and better surf.
What currency is used in the Maldives, and do I need cash?
The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts price and bill in US dollars and take major cards. Most guests never need cash — a small amount is handy for tipping.
Is the Maldives good for honeymoons outside peak season?
Yes. Off-peak brings noticeably lower rates and quieter islands, and rain tends to come in short bursts rather than all day. Many resorts add honeymoon extras during these months.
What activities are there for older kids and teens in the Maldives?
