Nine Skies has a knack of leaving you spellbound. This is go-slow territory where one day rolls dreamily into another as you swim with glorious views and discover the tonic to urban life.
This miniature marvel feels both classic and cool. Staff are as lovely as the butler-shaken cocktails, views are as green as a gem and armfuls of serenity are the name of the game. Rooms, just five of them, are immaculate, with four-poster beds, private verandas, custom-made furniture and French windows filtering in the morning’s sun. You’ll spend devilish amounts of time flitting from poolside to fireside but also be enticed by the distractions; a lesson in Sri Lankan cooking, the reward of a king coconut at the top of Ella Rock and effortless meandering through the Hill Country’s tea plantations thanks to the hotel’s walking app. There are other diversions too, pancake-rich breakfasts at Bungalow Viewpoint, pitch-perfect afternoon teas and an alfresco restaurant with an earth-kind low-mile menu.

This will be followed by a visit to the iconic Nine Arches Bridge; be sure to have your camera at the ready in case you see a train passing over this famous bridge. Then, you'll head to the stunning Ravana Falls and see the Dhowa Temple, before taking a ride on the Flying Ravana Zip Line. This double wire zip line, stretching over half a kilometre, means you can ride in pairs and have a bird's-eye view of the breathtaking landscapes. After this adrenaline-pumping activity, you'll end the day with your feet up poolside with a cocktail in hand at the Ravana Pool Club. Get your dose of fun and serenity with the Ibiza vibes of this pool club, which perfectly overlooks the mountain views of Ella. Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry season, with the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas. May to October brings shorter rain showers, lower prices and better surf.
What currency is used in the Maldives, and do I need cash?
The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts price and bill in US dollars and take major cards. Most guests never need cash — a small amount is handy for tipping.
Is the Maldives good for honeymoons outside peak season?
Yes. Off-peak brings noticeably lower rates and quieter islands, and rain tends to come in short bursts rather than all day. Many resorts add honeymoon extras during these months.
What activities are there for older kids and teens in the Maldives?
