Unspoiled beauty on one of the lesser-known islands
Light, bright and full of old-world Greek charm, Marpunta Resort is a place to roll out of bed and into your swimsuit. Dip in the spacious pool, borrow kayaks and paddleboards to explore secluded coves and head to the private beach where monk seals regularly like to lounge. The food scene is enticing too, ouzo and lobster on the beachfront terrace and amazing views and Mediterranean flavours at the Sunset restaurant.
Alonissos was one of the first islands of the Aegean to be inhabited and – devoid of mass tourism and busy nightlife – this lesser-known destination is very much about old-world Greek charm. One of the gems on the island is the Marpunta Village Club – a charming white-washed hideaway on the south coast peninsula, surrounded by pine forests and the Aegean Sea.
Ideal for laid-back family holidays and couples that want to get away from it all, you’re just a five-minute drive from the stunning bay of Patitiri and the quaint town of Alonissos (there’s a free shuttle bus available) and a five-minute walk from the pretty private pebble beach. Lined by loungers and umbrellas, the spacious freeform pool overlooks the crystal clear Aegean Sea.
