Lake Tekapo Lodge
A unique boutique lodge with a home-away-from-home feel and spectacular mountain and lake views
Experience the very best in Kiwi hospitality and a special blend of luxury, comfort and style at this charming lodge which is adorned with contemporary local art and heritage pieces. The friendly hosts go out of their way to make you feel at home and they are happy to share their knowledge of the local area, whether you want a recommendation for a great local restaurant or you need some advice on choosing excursions. It’s the thoughtful little touches that really set this award-winning lodge apart, from the freshly-cut flowers from the garden and the super-comfortable beds to the delicious cooked-to-order breakfast, and complimentary drinks in the lodge lounge. Set above the village of Tekapo, the lodge is in an ideal location for a peaceful escape yet it’s within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Tekapo’s incredible scenery can be enjoyed during a range of activities including hiking, fishing, sailing, horse riding and star-gazing. The views over the lake and the Southern Alps are breathtaking and they can be enjoyed from almost every corner of the lodge. The beautiful dining room has a roaring log fire, exposed brick walls, wooden beams, and a huge picture window overlooking the lake. Prepare yourself for a day of exploration with a hearty home-cooked breakfast – we recommend the delicious omelettes. Dinners may be available on request and focus on locally inspired meals accompanied by premium New Zealand wines. The cosy lounge is a great place to socialise with other guests, peruse the library of New Zealand literature and reference books, and help yourself to hot drinks, wine and soft drinks to enjoy by the fire. With just three beautifully designed rooms, a stay at this delightful lodge is as close to feeling like a house guest rather than a hotel customer that you can get. Large sliding doors open out to a shared deck where you can sit and relax with a glass of Central Otago pinot noir while gazing out across the aquamarine waters, surrounding mountains and starry night sky.

If you love French cuisine, look no further than La Belle Vie

An incredible way to kick off your Maldives holiday
“There's something pretty special about travelling by seaplane. The view from the sky is extraordinary - tiny specs of island and shades of blue that barely look real.”

The iconic, mile-long sandbank
Perfect for isolated sunbathing, dramatic photoshoots, and watching breathtaking Maldivian sunsets.

Snorkelling and diving isn't the only way to catch sight of the underwater world
“If snorkelling and diving isn't for you, it's possible to catch a glimpse of the reef from a glass-bottomed boat instead.”

Summit Experience
You travel up to the summit of Mount John, home to the University of Canterbury’s Mount John Observatory and set within the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. With almost no artificial light for miles, the sky here feels noticeably deeper and more detailed than in most places, even before you look through a telescope. You’ll spend time observing with the naked eye and through powerful telescopes, which bring planets, star clusters and distant galaxies into sharp view. Between observations, the guides talk about the science behind what you’re seeing, how this region became such an essential site for astronomy, and why protecting dark skies matters more than most people realise. • Duration: 2 hours • Daily departures • Operates year round • Group experience

Questions? Sorted.
Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?
British passport holders are issued a free 30-day visitor visa on arrival. You'll need a passport valid for the duration of your stay, a confirmed onward ticket and proof of your accommodation booking.
When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry season, with the most reliable sunshine and calmest seas. May to October brings shorter rain showers, lower prices and better surf.
What currency is used in the Maldives, and do I need cash?
The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts price and bill in US dollars and take major cards. Most guests never need cash — a small amount is handy for tipping.
Is the Maldives good for honeymoons outside peak season?
Yes. Off-peak brings noticeably lower rates and quieter islands, and rain tends to come in short bursts rather than all day. Many resorts add honeymoon extras during these months.
What activities are there for older kids and teens in the Maldives?
Most resorts run watersports centres with windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding, plus PADI dive courses from around age ten. Snorkelling safaris, sandbank trips and night fishing all suit older children.
